Would you like to experience an exciting day out in Valkenburg with your primary or secondary school? Then the coal mine is not to be missed.
Steenkolenmijn Valkenburg not only offers an enjoyable tour through the caves of Valkenburg, but also contributes to education about Limburg’s past.
What can you expect as a school?
It is important to us that the students are interested in what we offer throughout the hour.
Film about the history
The students start the tour in the movie room where a story from 1970 is played. This film shows the daily life of a miner as it took place 546 meters underground.
Guided tour of the mine
After the film, the students are picked up by one of the mine guides to enter the mine. Here they are given a tour of approximately one hour through the mysterious caves of Valkenburg.
Interesting stories from the guides
The guides are ex-miners and so speak from experience. They give demonstrations and know only too well how to tell a fascinating and funny story so that the students will not soon forget their visit.
